This idea came through Sianna in mediation the other day. We have worked hard to launch the movement in the last few days. Please read the letter and let us hear your voice. What moves you at the deepest level? What is YOUR MANIFESTO?

I will be posting mine this month too!

Check out the Manifesto Movement

Sisters and Brothers,

We invite you to write a manifesto of your innermost truth. A manifesto that becomes a portal to your most profound connection with all that is. Consider

what really matters to you, what ignites your soul and beckons you to the depth of your being. Consider what calls you forward with a willingness to state and declare your longing and the vision of your heart.

We hold open this manifesto doorway for all to walk through in voice, heart, mind and body. Everyone is welcome: all walks of life, all ages, all ethnicities, all brothers and sisters as one family of true radiant power. We hold space for your empowered voice. We support your highest and most potent alignment with the creative powers of the Universe. Our vision is to weave a garland of manifestos around the world for the full activation of the life force energy to serve healing and transformation.

This is our Facebook page. where you can interact with each other and write your manifestos. Come to this website whenever you yearn for inspiration. This website serves to hold and document all the manifestos that pour in during this month of May in this year of 2012. Be uplifted by the power of people’s hearts. Remember that true change begins within each and every one of us. Tell your friends and family to share their manifestos with the world. Together our collective voice can raise the vibration of LOVE.

Here’s how you begin.

Write your manifesto in the month of May up to 222 words.

Post it on this Facebook page : www.facebook.com/manifestomovement

Include a photo of yourself that embodies your manifesto and give us a short bio.

This is the Manifesto Movement of May and we await your heart’s declarations.

With great love,

Sianna and the Manifesto Team

————————————————————————————————————-

3 steps to help you write your manifesto:

Listen within. What are you thinking about? What is active and lit up inside of you right now? What are you passionate about? What do you stand for?

Give it voice. Start writing. Let it pour through you as a full stream of consciousness with no holding back. Let whatever it is move through you, be born through you. You’re the only one that can be the voice of this movement as it lives in YOU!

Make it succinct, bold, powerful and with the full fervor or your heart’s alignment. Our suggestion is 1-222 words. You will know. Trust yourself on this. We believe in YOU. With great love, Sianna and the Manifesto Team

This playlist was inspired both by the amazing musicians at last weekend’s Tadasana Festival and my preparations for a Pink Floyd Yoga class I am creating. At Tadasana I picked up DJ Drez’s latest release Jahta Beat :The Lotus Memories and “For What Its Worth (India Dub), a magical version of the Buffalo Springfield classic is featured here. Few words can describe the transcendent experience I had with Shiva Rea and The Toure-Raichel Collective at Tadasana and I highly suggest picking up their new release, The Tel Aviv Sessions. The epic grandeur of Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” is a no-brainer but I call your attention to a lost, late-90s electronica track. Space Cat and Elysium’s “Liquid Dub Connection” is a gorgeous mix of piano melodies and trip hop beats. In savasana, be soothed by Tadasana musician Masood Ali Kahn and his hypnotic use of the Hung. Happy yoga’ing and thank you so much to the Tadasana Festival!

The Brian Jonestown Massacre has always been something of freewheeling, psychedelic experiment perhaps suited best to the cultural milieu of Haight-Asbury circa 1966. Headed by Anton Newcombe and now based in the ever-artistic Berlin, Germany, BJM rotates band members, with alumni forming stalwarts like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Angels, and The Raveonettes.

Constantly experimenting with a mélange of sounds and styles, Aufheben finds the band cooly combining an instrumental hybrid of modern garage rock, moody electronics, eastern-influenced dub-lite, and Velvet Underground cool. This music slithers and shimmies with a groovy and hazy self-assurance. As the band dives into dark corners and opium-like atmospherics, they remain committed to serving the cohesion of individual songs. Produced as another in its long line of solid releases, Newcombe has to be recognized again as a creative force to be reckoned with.

“Aufheben” is a German word that is diversely difficult to define. With meanings such as “to lift up”, “to transcend”, “to preserve” and “to abolish”, the band highlights a word that Hegel explained as the “result of interaction between thesis and antithesis”. We often struggle to give words to the visceral and emotional experience of music and the meaning of music can only be embedded in the sonic experience itself. Where language fails, music begins.

Aufheben begins with “Panic In Babylon”, a nervous, jaunty number carried by its staunchly grooving underbelly. Relatively representative of the album as a whole, a driving and infectious organ/horn/sitar line sets a heady tone as an acoustic guitar and the tug of electronic harmonics float over the top. The song degenerates into monkey laughter and we acknowledge Newcombe’s ever-present trickster tendencies. The next three songs up the ante on this Day-Glo garage rock vibe, digging deep musical trenches for the band to explore.

Newcombe’s behavior in the 2004 documentary DIG remains a thorn in the band’s side, one that continues to carry the consequence of some viewing him as self-important and pretentious. There is little doubt that Newcombe is all in when it comes to BJM releases, and has taken some mis-steps (see 2008’s My Blood Underground). Nonetheless he is constantly pushing the limits of song structure and on Aufheben the band has made an unflappable and cohesive record. “Face Down on the Moon” may be the highpoint by combining infectious sitar and flute lines with rumbling bass work and rock chord progression; the band embodies a little Tortoise, a little Broken Social Scene, and a lot of Anton Newcombe.

“Blue Order New Monday” carries a massive groove to finish Aufheben but simply goes on far too long. This is orchestrated post-trip hop, indie-rock, almost a mix of an Americanized Air vs. MGMT. Relying on one keyboard line to a mind-numbing degree the album finishes on an unfortunate low point: the song would be far more powerful if it was four minutes shorter.

I just got back from the Tadasana Festival in Santa Monica, CA where I spent the weekend with my roomate, Kim and my teacher, Sianna Sherman. Despite less then stellar weather we had an amazing time and I got to assist Sianna and take classes from powerful teachers like Elena Brower, Sean Corne, Shiva Rea and Amy Ippoliti. Possibly the highlight of the weekend occurred in Shiva’s Mandala Vinyasa class on Sunday. With close to 400 yogis practicing together, Shiva built the energy with a slowly, flowing practice that was deeply accentuated by the music of the Toure-Raichel Collective, a musical collaboration between African and Israeli musicians. With gorgeous improvisational interplay the band consisted of a grand piano (yes! on stage! in a yoga class!), electric bass, stunning acoustic guitar, and African percussion. The band hit a twenty minute section toward the peak of class that was simply transcendant. A water-like, Grateful-Dead esque fluidity highlighted their jamming that had me warm and deeply smiling. I was so taken with their music, I plan to see the band this weekend in Seattle, at the Triple Door. Check them out!

With the Disco Biscuits existing in something of a musical purgatory these days, playing only large scale events like Camp Bisco and Mayan Holidaze, founding members Marc Brownstein (bass) and Aron Magner (keys) are focused squarely on Conspirator, the side project they developed in 2004. Enfolding guitarist Chris Michetti into a permanent guitar slot and calling on a rotating cast of talented livetronica drummers, the band just released Unlocked: Live from the Georgia Theater on SCI Fidelity. Crisscrossing the country all spring and summer like the touring hounds the Biscuits used to be, Conspirator is in attack mode, with thirty extra men. Contra style. Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select start.

All the live playing has paid off because Unlocked finds the band pulsating at full intensity. Their most fully realized recorded sounds to date, stalwart elements of the Biscuits are there, if that is what you are seeking. Magner remains a maestro at coaxing ungodly tricky and weirdly gorgeous melodies from his vast array of synths and computers and Brownstein’s trademark driving dub bass lines have added electro bulk. However, Conspirator is not an improvisational band like the Biscuits, but rather a tightly wound outfit seeking unswerving yet interlocking dance grooves that incorporate a genre-bending mash-up of the ever-evolving modern dance world.

The album showcases some of the vast arsenal of material the band has recently debuted with tracks like “So Much More” and “S & M” fusing dubstep breaks with searing guitar fireworks from Michetti. He and Magner team up to create a ferocious tidal wave of crescendos with Michetti’s solo at the top of “S & M” skyrocketing into the stratosphere. “Velvet Red > “Feed the Wolf “> “Velvet Red” is a near twenty minute sequence of demonic, throbbing bass and drums that Magner anchors with lyric-less chorus lines full of with sharp melodies.

The “Countach” > “Proper Education” > “Gypsy Lane” > “Retrograde”” sequence that completes the set is the peak of Conspirator’s dance floor occupation. On “Countach” the band finds a relentless and sinister groove before they ride Michetti’s intricate fusion playing into a breakdown where you can almost feel the Georgia Theater catch its breath before an explosion into a remixed “Another Brick in the Wall” segment. This is dark, dance music for those that like to go all night.

Using the Jackson 5 song “Reach In” as the lyrical, thematic base for class (Reach In/Find that Tree of Wisdom) it was easy peasy to see how Michael is a master yogi with the message of internal change he threads through all his music.
